The UW CDI & Kidney Research Institute have been selected by the Department of Health & Human Services and the American Society of Nephrologists (ASN) to host a townhall meeting for the Kidney Innovation Accelerator (KidneyX) in Seattle on 8/22/18.
KidneyX is a public-private partnership to accelerate innovation in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of kidney diseases. ASN has already committed $25 million to KidneyX for the first year and is committed to providing a matching $25 million/year for years 2 – 5. Representative DelBene (WA) is sponsoring legislation to generate the matching $25 million for each of the next five years. KidneyX is targeting late 2018 as the first opportunity to apply to participate.
KidneyX seeks to improve the lives of the 850 million people worldwide currently affected by kidney disease by accelerating the development of drugs, devices, biologics and other therapies across the spectrum of kidney care for patients and their families. These are therapies that could reduce or eliminate the patients’ time on dialysis, slow or stop the progression of kidney disease, improve patient outcomes and provide a better quality of life for people with kidney disease.
